2025 Elks Club Design Challenge: Reimagining a Local Landmark
The Elks Club in Boulder has stood as a hub for community, celebration, and service for more than half a century. Built in 1967, the iconic mid-century structure has charm, history—and untapped potential.
As part of Month of Modern 2025, we’re inviting architects, landscape designers, contractors, and students to take part in the Reviving the Elks Club Design Challenge—a bold, imaginative effort to help shape the next chapter of this beloved space.
The Challenge
Participants are asked to reimagine the Elks Club for modern use while honoring its mid-century architectural style. This includes exploring creative updates to both the interior and exterior spaces, thoughtful furnishings and finishes, and ideas that enhance the building’s role as a community hub in Boulder today.
We’re seeking proposals that balance preservation with innovation—concepts that are not only beautiful but also feasible, sustainable, and rooted in the Club’s longstanding role as a civic gathering place.

The Todd Reed Design Award
We’re honored to partner with renowned jewelry designer Todd Reed, who will create a one-of-a-kind design award for the standout concepts submitted. These awards will be presented during the Month of Modern Wrap Party on September 26 at the Elks Lodge.
