Our vision is to create a walkable earthen roof that pulls the western land over the existing building and partially covers new outdoor space on the west side of the property. The western ballroom wall is opened up to allow light into the building and access to new outdoor space. A corner bar is placed between the pool, ballroom and outdoors activating new uses that flow and circulate for large gatherings, celebrations, wedding venue and space for indoor / outdoor film festivals such as Sundance. The earthen roof is energy efficient and it creates paths, rooftop event possibility and exceptional views. Consolidated Elks Lodge space is relocated to the northern gathering room. This space can house member uses with a private northern access or function as a flexible community space for gallery art shows or events that need smaller spaces.

Celebrated as the most visionary submission in the competition. Though not the most immediately practical, the jury applauded its innovative concept and imaginative rethinking of the Elks Club’s potential.

– Venue with indoor/outdoor and rooftop events – walking / garden areas. Elevator access to rooftop.
– New bar location near pool and outdoor covered areas to the west.
– Replace cedar shake with ribbed metal siding. Open up existing entry structure.
– Add entry signage, parking lot landscaping and paths around building, on rooftop and connected spaces.
– New recreational area east of the pool for tennis or other uses.
