Designing the Human Experience
Month of Modern kicked off the 2026 season with an intimate evening of cocktails, conversation, and connection at Visual Comfort & Co.
Centered around this year’s theme, Human Scale: Modern Design, Made Personal, the evening explored the human side of modern design—because modern design is not just about how things look. It’s about how spaces support daily life, shape comfort, and respond to the people who inhabit them.
Throughout the evening, guests rotated through small conversation circles led by voices from across the design community, with each host offering a different lens on design and experience. Conversations explored light and atmosphere, scale and comfort, modern-but-warm interiors, storytelling through architecture, and the role of craft, materials, and furnishings in shaping how a space is felt.
The small-group format made room for something different from a traditional panel: personal stories, questions, shared experiences, and real conversation between guests and hosts. With each rotation came a fresh perspective on what it means to create modern spaces that feel not only beautiful, but personal, comfortable, and deeply livable.
Meet the Conversation Hosts
Josh Weiss
Executive Vice President, Tech Lighting, Visual Comfort
Josh Weiss is Executive Vice President at Visual Comfort and a recognized leader and educator in architectural lighting, controls, and shading systems. During the evening, he shared his design-led approach to the home, exploring how manufactured light, daylight, and technology can shape atmosphere, function, and ultimately, well-being. Josh champions the idea of “Light How You Live,” helping design professionals create spaces that not only look beautiful, but also support healthier, happier, and more meaningful everyday experiences.
Kristin Dittmar Doremus
Creative Director + Owner, Kristin Dittmar Design
Aspen-based interior designer Kristin Dittmar Doremus of Kristin Dittmar Design creates refined interiors that merge natural textures with modern-mountain sophistication. Her work—from historic log homes to restaurant projects—balances warmth, comfort, and luxury while honoring the character of each space. Featured in design publications nationwide, Kristin is recognized for her technical expertise and architecturally sensitive approach to projects.
Kenneth Adler, AIA
Principal, KA Designworks
Kenneth Adler, AIA, founder of Aspen-based KA DesignWorks, has built a reputation for creating refined mountain and resort residences that balance clarity of form, functionality, and a deep connection to the landscape. He leads with a collaborative, client-first philosophy that shapes the design process and integrates advanced visual technology to bring each client’s vision to life with clarity and precision.
Melony Sebastian
Director of Business Development, Signature Windows + Doors
Melony Sebastian is Director of Business Development at Signature Windows + Doors, Colorado’s leading provider of premium window and door systems. She works closely with architects, designers, and clients to align high-performance products with project vision, helping shape thoughtful and well-executed spaces from early design through installation.
Jen Miller
Furniture & Procurement Specialist, HMH Architecture + Interiors
Jen Miller works closely with designers, vendors, and clients to curate furnishings that bring warmth, function, and personality to a space. With experience managing the complex process of sourcing, customization, and installation, she helps translate design concepts into lived environments that feel cohesive, comfortable, and deeply personal.
Between conversations, guests gathered over cocktails and bites, browsed a curated collection of architecture and design books from Benton Buckley Books, and connected with Boulder’s design community.
